Situational Analysis | November 6, 2026

It’s Friday and National Nacho Day.

What you need to know

  • Sen. Evan Vickers from Cedar City is set to be the next president of the Utah State Senate, the first from southern Utah in 70 years. He is now running unopposed after Sen. Kirk Cullimore has lost his seat. Sen. Don Ipson, from St. George, called Vickers an inclusive leader who brings people across the Senate together, not just the majority party. The formal election for the leadership positions is scheduled for this evening.

Rapid relevance

  • The BYU-Utah rivalry game deserved a better kickoff time (it’s 10 am tomorrow!), but it doesn’t diminish its enormity; Urban Meyer shares a story about an apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ before BYU-Utah rivalry game; and why does the BYU-Utah rivalry game trigger such deep emotions??
